17th July - Show me the money!

This week in RE, Year 1 have been learning about the Creation Story and the different versions believed by Jewish and Christian people. We explored artwork and read extracts from the book of Genesis in the Bible to develop our understanding of who God is and why the Creation Story is important to many people of faith.

We were also treated to a dress rehearsal of the Year 6 end-of-year production, Bugsy Malone. The children thoroughly enjoyed watching the fantastic singing, acting and dancing, and were a wonderful audience. A huge well done to Year 6—good luck for the final performance next week!

In Maths, we have begun our new unit on money. We have been learning to recognise different coins and notes and have started thinking about their values. To help us practise, we played a fun memory game where one child left the circle while another secretly removed a coin from the middle. The child then returned and had to work out which coin was missing. It was a brilliant way to develop our coin recognition and observation skills while having lots of fun!

In Literacy, we rounded up our learning by writing our own fact files about fictional bugs. The children loved using their imaginations to invent their own creatures, thinking carefully about their appearance, habitat, diet and interesting facts. It was a fantastic opportunity to apply everything we have learnt about non-fiction writing and the features of information books.
