In Science, we have been learning about different types of roots. We focused on tap roots and branching roots, comparing how they are different.

Tap roots have one main thick root that grows down into the soil, with smaller roots growing from it. Examples of tap roots include carrots, beetroot and parsnips.

Branching roots have many thinner roots spreading out in different directions to help support the plant and absorb water. Examples include carnations, grass and sunflowers.

To help us understand this, we explored real plants and vegetables. We looked at carrots, beetroot and carnations, feeling and observing their roots to experience the differences for ourselves. We enjoyed investigating and discussing what we noticed about each type of root!

In Geography, we have been focusing on the weather. We have been studying the sky and observing the changes we can see each day. We have also been using thermometers to monitor and compare temperatures and recapping the different types of weather we experience during each of the four seasons.

Next week, we will be making our own windsocks to help us learn about wind direction and weather patterns. If anyone has any spare toilet roll tubes at home, donations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!
