8th May - Powerful poetry!

This week in Literacy, Year 1 have continued exploring poems. We have really enjoyed working together to create our own rhyming poem. We used the Caribbean counting poem as inspiration and then combined all of our ideas to create a fantastic class poem. We are looking forward to rehearsing our poem and performing it to another year group next week.

In PE, we have continued our focus on Kwik Cricket, concentrating on how to handle a cricket bat and how to strike the ball to hit targets. We really enjoyed practising these skills and are looking forward to consolidating our learning in a mini match before half term.

In Science, we have continued our learning about animals, focusing on amphibians. We learnt that amphibians are cold-blooded animals that can live both on land and in water. We also discovered that most amphibians lay eggs and have smooth, moist skin.

We also say a fond farewell to our student teacher, Mrs Ali. Thank you for all of your hard work and support in Year 1. We wish you the very best of luck and hope to see you again soon!

Just a reminder that there will be a parent workshop about the Phonics Screening Check with myself and Mrs Brady-Turner on 11th May at 2:45pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
