9th January History – Anglo Saxons

This week in year 5 we started our new History topic on the Anglo-Saxons. We began our new History project by recording what we already knew about the Anglo- Saxon and what we wanted to learn during our lessons. In order to help us with our understanding, we made links with our Year 4 learning about the Romans and discovered that the Anglo-Saxons arrived after the Romans departed.
For one of our experiences we became atlas inspectors and looked at a range of maps to help us understand the possible geographical reasons as to why the Angles, Saxons and the Jutes choose to come to England. To be successful in this, we compared the land height and flood plains between Britain and the Netherlands.
It’s been so refreshing to see the class so interested in the Anglo-Saxon topic and we are certainly looking forward to learning more about this over the next term.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Jones & Mrs Croucher
