Tuesday 9 December 2025 5th December - DECO DAY! Our Deco Day was filled with joy, creativity, and wonderful family spirit. Parents joined their children for a lively range of festive activities, from drawing colourful designs on the windows with chalk pens to crafting interactive snow globes that shimmered with winter magic. The classrooms buzzed with excitement as families built and decorated gingerbread houses, wrote and decorated colourful Christmas cards, and painted Santa and snowman baubles. The day ended on a high note with a thrilling paper chain race, where parents and children worked together in teams to create the longest, most impressive paper chains they could. It was a memorable celebration that brought everyone together in festive fun.

Monday 8 December 2025 27th November - Our trip to the Sikh Gurdwara This week we visited the Sikh Gurdwara in Luton and experienced an exciting look at daily life inside a Gurdwara. We were warmly welcomed, shown around, and taught about the traditions and culture that are practiced there each day. We were lucky enough to watch a prayer taking place in the main hall, where fascinating music was played on traditional instruments and a reading from the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book. We learned about why the Gurdwara is so important to Sikhs, what kinds of celebrations and events happen there, and explored Sikh traditions such as the 5 Ks, which we had already learned about in school, so we felt like experts! It was a fantastic trip that taught us so much and really supported our RE learning back in the classroom.

Monday 8 December 2025 21st November - Enterprise Week in Year 3! This week was Enterprise Week, and we worked together as a team to plan, create, and sell our own products. We handmade soaps and sold them to parents and carers on Friday. Throughout the week we completed maths lessons to calculate costs, selling prices, and profit. In literacy, we designed posters to promote handwashing, and on the computers we created our own soap labels, pick-and-mix labels, and even name tags for ourselves. We assigned different roles for everyone in the shop and even re-enacted Dragons' Den to pitch our products. We made both the soap and the soap dishes completely from scratch, and decorated the classroom with tablecloths, signs, and bunting to attract our customers. It was a fun and exciting week where we learned new profit and entrepreneurial skills and worked brilliantly as a team. Here is just a glimpse of what the week entailed...

Monday 8 December 2025 14th November - Dream School vs Nightmare School In PSHE this week, we explored ideas about what our dream school would look like, thinking about the activities we would enjoy and how it would feel to learn there. We compared these ideas with all the fun and positive things we already experience at Two Waters School, recognising what makes our school special. We also imagined a “nightmare school” and discussed the things we wouldn't enjoy doing and why they would make learning difficult or unpleasant. Through these reflections, we talked about how privileged we are to have a safe, supportive, and exciting place to learn, and how much we appreciate the opportunities our school provides every day.

Friday 7 November 2025 7th November - History detectives In our history lesson this week, we learned about what history is and how we find out about events and people from the past. We explored the idea that history helps us understand how things have changed over time and why the world is the way it is today. Our key word for the lesson was chronology, which means the order in which events happen. To help us understand this better, we each created our own timelines showing the most important moments in our lives so far. This helped us see how our personal histories can be organised in time, just like the events we study from the past.

Friday 24 October 2025 24th October - Earthquakes! In Geography, Year 3 have been learning all about earthquakes and how powerful they can be! We discovered that earthquakes can cause five deadly features: tsunamis, landslides, liquefaction, ground shaking, and the raising and lowering of land. We learned how each of these can change the landscape and affect people's lives. For example, tsunamis create huge waves that can flood coastal areas, and liquefaction turns solid ground into something that acts like quicksand! The children were fascinated by how much the Earth can move and how important it is to understand these natural events.

Friday 24 October 2025 17th October - The Magic Box In Year 3, we began an exciting new topic in Literacy all about poems! To start, we explored a magic box and used our imaginations to guess what might be hidden inside. We shared creative ideas — from sparkling stars and whispers of the wind to laughter, dreams, and secret wishes. This activity helped us think about how poets use imagination and descriptive language to make their writing come alive. Everyone enjoyed using their senses and creativity to create vivid images in their minds, setting the stage for writing our very own magical poems! We then went on an adventure around the school to find autumnal features, to use expanded noun phrases to describe what we can see.

Tuesday 14 October 2025 10th October - Harvest banners This week in RE, Year 3 learned about the relevance and importance of Harvest. We explored how Harvest is a time to give thanks to God for all the food and resources we receive, and to remember those who may not have as much. The children discussed ways we can help others in need and show gratitude for what we have. To celebrate this special time, Year 3 created beautiful banners expressing their thanks to God for the Harvest and for the opportunity to share and care for others in our community.

Friday 3 October 2025 3rd October - Waterproof rocks! This week in Science, we looked closely at a range of rocks and explored the permeability through an exciting experiment. We identified what permeable and impermeable means and the children were able to give examples of rocks from previous lessons, sandstone, granite and chalk. Using pipets, the children carefully added water to each rock and observed what happened. They recorded whether the water was absorbed or ran off the surface, helping them determine which rocks were permeable and which were not. The children were excited to see the results of their experiment, for example, sandstone soaked up water easily, while the water on granite stayed visible.

Tuesday 30 September 2025 26th September 2025 - Rhythm with recorders This term in Year 3, we are learning how to play the recorders. We have mastered singing the R&B song 'Let your spirit fly' and now we are working on one note at a time to play it on the recorders. So far we have focused on playing our first 3 notes, C, B and A, remembering to keep our thumbs on the back finger holes! We have worked really hard to make our tune sound like the song and hopefully we can keep it up to eventually perform the whole song with our instruments.

Friday 19 September 2025 19th September - Fantastic fables This week we have started our new Literacy topic all about fables, we have learnt about the five key features of a fable and how the author creates detailed setting description within her writing. We have explored our previous learning from Year 2 of expanded noun phrases and worked independently and in groups to describe the setting of our favourite fables. The children used powerful adjectives and in depth description to describe the setting, picturing what they could see if they were inside the book! After writing and editing their setting descriptions, they worked in pairs to read one another their writing and it was their partners job to draw what they were describing, ensuring that there was enough detail and information for their partner to picture it in their heads! Well done Year 3!

Friday 12 September 2025 12th September - Investigating Rocks We've had a fantastic first week in Year 3! One of our highlights was exploring different types of rocks in science. We examined them closely, describing their colour and texture. It was really interested when we were comparing and contrasting their properties. Some were smooth and shiny and others were rough and dull. The class shared brilliant observations and worked well together. It's been a great start to our science learning this year!
